Lois P. Griffiths, 82, passed away peacefully, Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012 at her home in Punta Gorda, FL. She was born on Sept. 14, 1930 to Dr. Walter and Adrienne (nee Smith) Prinzler in Greensburg, PA. Lois graduated from Greensburg High School in 1948 and Miss Conley's School in 1949 in Pittsburgh, PA. She worked in the Carnegie Library School in Pittsburgh until 1952. In 1950 she married William W. Griffiths, Jr. They lived in Pittsburgh for 2 years and then moved to Catonsville, Maryland, where they lived for 43 years. Lois graduated from Catonsville Community College in 1968 and from the Johns Hopkins University in 1987, cum laude, with a B.S. in World Literature. She was a member of the Catonsville Rolling Hills Woman's Club, a number of bridge clubs, civic organizations, the Baltimore Opera Guild and the Republican Woman's Club. Lois was on the Board of Directors for a term and the Board of Managers of the Presbyterian Home of Maryland and served as Secretary of both boards. She also served as Recording Secretary of the Baltimore District of Federated Women's Club. The Griffiths were members of the Hopkins Club and the Engineers Club in Baltimore. She was a member of the Women's Association of the Catonsville Presbyterian Church, where she was an ordained Elder and Deacon. Lois was a reader for a handicapped student in Catonsville and for a time was part of the Mentoring Program in Florida. In 1995 the Griffiths moved to Punta Gorda from Maryland. They became members of Burnt Store Presbyterian Church, where she served a term as Deacon. They joined the Twin Isles Country Club and Lois belonged to a number of bridge groups in Punta Gorda. Lois was a woman of deep faith and her great joy in life was her family. She enjoyed her friendships, playing bridge, reading and the welfare of animals.
Lois will be greatly missed by her husband, William; daughters, Susan (John) Brandt, Elizabeth (Richard) Woodin and Kathryn (Joseph) George; grandchildren, Christina (Rob) Utterback, David (Autumn) Brandt, William (Kristen) Brandt, Robert (Veronica) Brandt, Matthew (Rachel) Brandt and Andrew (Mallory) Brandt, Charles (Debbie) Woodin, Michael (Laura) Woodin, Melody (Prentiss) Taafee, Thomas George, Lindsey (Elliott) Fitzgerald and Allison (James) Rabe and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at on Friday, December 28 at 1:00 pm at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 111 College Ave., Greensburg, PA, burial to follow at Westmoreland Co Memorial Park.
