Lowell Smith

August 22, 1942 — November 3, 2017

Lowell Ian Smith, 75, of Greensburg (Unity Township), died on Friday, November 3, 2017 in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh in the arms of his loving wife of 44 years, Gloria J. Smith.  He was born on August 22, 1942 in Merrick, NY.  Lowell was the son of the late Louise and Homer Smith.  He is survived by his wife, Gloria J. Smith; son, Robin Scott Smith; brother, Robin Smith and his wife, Tomma; 2 sisters, Marguerite Smith and Alison Phillips, both of Florida; sister in law, Mary Ann Tiano; brother in law, Sam Tiano and wife Judy;  nieces Melanie and Tracy; nephews, John and J.R. Tiano; grand-niece, Emma Rose;  aunt, Lucie Romano; cousins, Paul and Judy Romano, David and Sally Romano, Michael and Amy Romano and John Romano;  also, many other nieces, nephews and cousins.  Lowell was an integral part of the Tiano and Romano families.   He was a “ray of sunshine”, a wonderful special person.  He was always happy to be alive and doing something for others.  Prior to retirement, he was head of systems application at Allegheny Energy.  He taught night computer classes at St. Vincent College for a number of years.  He helped to develop and publish his wife’s Pennsylvania Game and Family Reunion Book.  Lowell was a member of The Westmoreland Museum of American Art.  He enjoyed travel, sports, reading and spending time with his loving wife.  There will be no visitation.  Friends and family are welcome at Lowell’s funeral mass to be held on Friday at 1 PM in St. Vincent Basilica Parish, 300 Fraser Purchase Road, Latrobe.  Entombment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery Mausoleum.    Funeral arrangements are being handled by Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, Greensburg.  For online condolences, please visit www.kepplegraft.com.
