Margaret J. George, a lifetime resident of Greensburg, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at the age of 97. She was born on May 7, 1927 in Greensburg, the youngest daughter of the late John A. and Lucy Murray George. She was preceded in death by siblings, Estelle Laughner, Marie Welker, John George, Betty Appleby, Gail O'Brien, Richard George, and Marjorie George. She was the loving aunt and great aunt to a countless number of nieces and nephews and their families. The clan stretches across the US, but were all connected by the special person they knew as Aunt Peg. Margaret was a faithful parishioner of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral her entire life, never missing a Sunday mass or Holy day service. She was employed by the Bell Telephone and later by AT&T, retiring in 1989 with 43 years of service. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, where she volunteered in many fundraising projects for worthwhile causes. In addition, she gave countless hours at the local food bank in Greensburg, where she was one of the oldest volunteers, working alongside teens and young adults, even as she neared her 90th birthday.Despite her busy life, Peg looked after her elderly mother, as well as many of her siblings as they aged. But she still found time to celebrate the happy events of her nieces and nephews and their families. She savored her close friendships with her colleagues at work and so many others that she met along the way. For years, she enjoyed traveling with a group out of Ligonier known as the 'Happy Travelers,' who ventured to too many destinations to mention. One of her life long passions was cheering on her Pittsburgh Steelers, and she could always be found with her 'Terrible Towel.' In Margaret's passing, the world has lost a faithful family member, a loving aunt, a loyal church member, a dear friend, a charitable volunteer, and a generous donor to worthy causes. But heaven has finally welcomed her into a well deserved eternity of peace, where she can reunite with all those that she has so loyally loved and served. The family is most grateful to the wonderful staff at Redstone Skilled Nursing and Redstone @ Home Hospice. A special thanks as well to her niece-in-law, Barbara Appleby, and also to Margaret's caring friend, Carole Niggel, for their countless hours, days, and weeks of loving attention (and sweet treats) that they both showered on our dear Aunt Peg. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, October 8th from 8:30am to 9am in the KEPPLE-GRAFT Funeral Home 524 N. Main Street, Greensburg. Prayers will be recited at 9am in the funeral home followed by Margaret's funeral mass at 9:30am at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral 300 N. Main Street, Greensburg. Internment will follow in the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to St Jude's Hospital for Children, Tunnel to Towers, or a charity of your choice.
