Margaret T. “Peggy” Walter, 93, of South Greensburg, passed away Wednesday, August 03, 2016 in Westmoreland Manor. She was born January 9, 1923 in South Greensburg a daughter of the late Leo and Lauretta (O’Keefe) Baker.
Peggy had been employed in the cafeteria for Greensburg Salem School District and was a member of the Auxiliary of the South Greensburg American Legion Post 981 for over 50 years. She was a member of St. Bruno’s Catholic Church where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society and sang in the church choir for more than 50 years. Peggy performed on WHJB with the radio show “Jeanean” and had also performed with several big bands.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd A. Walter and a brother, Richard Baker.
She is survived by her son, Lawrence Walter and his wife, Nancy; her daughter, Carolyn Cope and her husband, Bob; four grandchildren, Lauretta Mihalik; Amy Clawson (Aneurin “Butch”); Richard Cope and Gerald Cope (fiancé, Ashley Dick); four great-grandchildren, Mikayla Sciulli, Paige Mihalik, Brooke Mihalik and Alana Clawson.
Family and friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm in the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, INC. 524 N. Main Street, Greensburg, where Prayers of Transfer will be recited on Saturday at 9:30 am in the funeral home followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 AM at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Greensburg. Interment will follow in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Westmoreland Manor and Bridges Hospice for the care they provided to Peggy.
