L. Marie Farrow Forehan, of Greensburg, died, Tuesday, December 3, 2024. She was born on a cold winter night of February 2, 1926, a daughter of the late Clara Abbott Dopp and Ira Dunn Farrow, at their home in North Ryegate, Vermont. She attended one-room schools in Barnet and Ryegate, Vermont and was valedictorian of her class at Groton High School, Groton, Vermont. She was graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Vermont in Burlington, with a B.S. degree in Home Economics Education. She taught Home Economics for one year in Wells River, VT. She married Clayton Leavenworth Forehan on June 17, 1949, at the Congregational Church in Peacham, VT. They lived for one year in Philadelphia, coming to Greensburg in May of 1950. They lived for a few years in Norvelt, then moved to Southwest Greensburg.
She taught Home Economics and Science in the Hempfield Area Schools. She was a member of the South Greensburg United Methodist Church, where she was an active member. She also was a genealogist and member of several historical societies, including Baltzer Meyer Historical Society, Westmoreland Historical Society, Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society and Peacham Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton L. Forehan; her brother, Dr. Hugh E. Farrow; sisters, Inez Farrow Cookson and Marlene Farrow DeFreest; brothers-in-law, Charles Cookson and David DeFreest; daughters-in-law, Maureen and Debra Forehan. Marie is survived by her four sons, David Forehan, James Forehan, Michael Forehan and Henry Forehan; 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; also, several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 from 3 to 6 pm at Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 North Main Street, Greensburg. A funeral service for Marie will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at 11 am in the funeral home. A livestream of the service will be available by going to Marie’s obituary page on the funeral home website. Interment will follow in Hillview Cemetery.
