Mary Bono

December 25, 1926 — August 1, 2021

Mary Alice (Zembower) Bono, 94, of Greensburg, passed away, Sunday Aug 1, 2021, of heart disease and cancer.  She was born Dec. 25,1926 in Bedford, PA. She was the daughter of Norman E. Zembower and Margaret A. (Miller) Zembower. She graduated from Greensburg High School in 1944 and entered the Cadet Nursing Program at Westmoreland School of Nursing. She graduated in 1947 as the war ended, she then continued working at Westmoreland Hospital as an Obstetrics Nurse. She met her husband Ralph Joseph Bono, Jr. through her best friend Catherine (Kitty) Bono Kercheval and they married Dec. 26, 1950 in Greensburg. Ralph  was in the army when they married and they raised a family in Ulm, Germany, Ft.Lewis, WA, Ft. Benning, GA, and Greensburg. When her husband died in 1965 in GA, she moved back to Greensburg and worked as an office nurse for Dr. Henry Ober. Then worked with the TB Assoc. In Greensburg and finally the Seton Hill University Education Dept where she learned to use a computer. She continued her computer skills for church bulletins and correspondence with family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Ann E. Anderson (Betty) and brother Norman R. Zembower (Bob). She is survived by children Helen M. Giernacky (Jerry) and Norman R. Bono (Linda) of Greensburg;  Grandchildren Ralph G. Giernacky (Diana) of Doylestown, PA, Lora M. Shawley (Matthew) of Quakertown, PA, Beth A. Holsopple (Kristopher) of Greensburg, and Richard L. Bono (Jen) of Chapel Hill, NC.;  10 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was a strong and independent woman with a sweet and caring nature. Taking on all the many challenges she faced throughout her life. She will be sorely missed.   Family and friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. & 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, Inc., 524 North Main Street, Greensburg, Pa 15601.  Where a funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday .  Interment will follow in The St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association, or to a charity of your choice.
