Mary Sanford Smith 87 of Bovard passed away on November 10, 2011 at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
She was born on October 22, 1924 in Mt. Airy, Md. and was the daughter of the late Edgar and Lydia Fowler.
She was a faithful member of the Hempfield Church of Christ in Greensburg until her stroke which prevented her from attending services on a regular basis.
Mary had been married for 52 years to the late John T. Smith who owned the L & S Machine Company in Latrobe for more than 25 years.
She was preceded in death besides her parents and husband by her brothers Bill Fowler and Pete Fowler and her sisters Evelyn Fowler, Virginia Fowler Stella and Mabel Fowler Krausz.
Mary was a devoted wife and mother and is survived by her children, Donald Smith and wife Peggy , James Smith, George Smith and Mary Lynn King all of Greensburg. She was a beloved grandmother to Eric Smith and Arlo King and his wife Heather of Greensburg and Eron Smith of Las Vegas along with extended grandchildren Dominick Mash and wife Lani of Leesburg, Va. and Theresa and husband Peter Oien of Greensburg and eleven great grandchildren and her loving sister Eva Korhnack and husband Leonard of Greensburg.
Honoring Mary's wishes there will be no public visitation. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday 11/19/11 at 11 am in the Hempfield Church of Christ, 144 Hugh Black Road, Greensburg (www.hempfieldcc.org) with Rev. Mike Hazelton officiating.
Mary will be interred next to her late husband in Waterford, Pa.
