Mary Tidwell

November 26, 1919 — May 10, 2014

Mary Maxine Graham Tidwell, 94, of Greensburg, traveled to meet her Lord, Saturday, May 10, 2014 surrounded by her family in St. Anne Home. She was born November 26, 1919 in Jamestown, LA a daughter of the late Addie Napoleon Graham and Minnie Matthews Graham.

"Mamaw" as she was known by most was married at age 21. She and her husband Timothy Jacob Tidwell had wed secretly as she was still in Nursing School and the rules strictly prohibited marriage. Three weeks prior to her graduation they could wait no more and they moved to Haughton, LA.

They had four Children, Wayne, spouse Vicki of CO; Gerald, spouse Cecelia of Champion PA; Linda, spouse Warren of Greensburg PA; and Don, spouse Connie of NC.

At age 50, and her husband's passing, she returned to Nursing School at LSU. None of her earlier credits counted so she had to start from scratch. She worked full time and carried a full time course load. She was an accomplished student who graduated with Honors as an RN. With her compassion to patients, she quickly, became Head of her Floor at Highlands Hospital in Shreveport, LA.

After retiring, she moved to Greensburg to be closer to her family. She learned to drive at age 45. When she went to the car dealer to purchase a car, she told them that she did not yet have her license but would practice and get it later that day. A strong work ethic was installed at her in at an early age. She grew up in Jamestown LA on a produce farm. Nothing was wasted, feed sacks were made into clothes and good food was savored. In Southern True Grit Style, all of her children have excelled in their Entrepreneurial endeavors. Her born Louisiana Hospitality was enhanced by her Exceptional cooking. Each month New Recipe Books were delivered to her door, and she excitedly invited ones over to sample new dishes. Most prized was her mouth-watering fried Chicken and Dressing, and Lemon Squares. Her home was a happy one, continually filled with family and friends. She was the epitome of a true Southern Lady. The phrase "Yaw'll Come Back You Hear" echoed each visitors exit. Mamaw had a smile for all; she enjoyed sewing crochet, Crossword Puzzles and Scrabble. Her knowledge of words was revered, even at 90 most could not match her wit and knowledge of words. Her lifelong devotion to God and the Scriptures, were her daily companion.

Her loving family included Nine Grandchildren, Donna and Lisa; Carolyn and Julia; Ginnette, Julie and Leslie; Angela and Jacob. Five Great Grandchildren, Grahm; Cameron and Sophia, Cheyann and Laramie. Each one her loved and cherished baby.
