Mary Lou Sofko

Mary Lou Sofko, 77 of Greensburg, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

She was born September 24, 1940 and grew in Manor, a daughter of the late William and Mary Lucinda (Larimer) Sofko.

Mary Lou was a graduate of Hempfield High School, the Westmoreland Hospital Nursing School, the McKeesport Anesthesiology School, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelors from California State University.

Mary Lou's life was one of service and giving to anyone that was in need.

Her career  as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist began at McKeesport Hospital, she would move on to lead the anesthesiology department at Monsour Hospital, worked as a RNA at Lee Memorial Hospital (UPMC), Johnstown and later supplied all anesthesia along with friend and partner Justine Cornell for Winber Hospital.

Mary Lou had a beautiful touch on the piano and was an accomplished vocal soloist and musician. At age thirteen she was church organist for the Lutheran church and later directed the Methodist Church Choir.

Later in life, she taught a series of in depth Bible studies in her home.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother through marriage, Kenneth B. McIntyre.

Surviving are her brother, Bill Sofko and her sister, Jacqueline McIntyre.

Family and friends will be received on Friday from 4-7pm at the KEPPLE-GRAFT Funeral Home 524 N. Main Street, Greensburg.

Services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 10am with Minister Cheryl Petrini and Major Ernest Fullwood co-officiating.

Interment will follow in the St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg.
