Michael Watko

September 19, 1926 — May 2, 2012

Michael William Watko 85 of Greensburg, passed away on Wednesday May 2, 2012 at the Redstone Highlands in Greensburg.

He was born on 9/19/1926 in Clairton and was the son of the late Michael S. and Margaret Bindas Woytko. He was a graduate of Clairton High School class of 1944.

Michael served in the Navy during WW II and was a retired employee of the US Steel (Irwin works) for over 40 years.

He was a member of the Round Hill Presbyterian Church and a longtime volunteer at the Powder Mill Preserve in Ligonier and an avid bird watcher.

Michael was preceded in death besides his parents by his wife Evaleen and a brother Bernard and sister Clara.

He is is survived by his son Thomas M. Watko and wife Robin of Whitesburg, Ky. and a daughter Cindy L. Harlan and husband Robert of Greensburg.

Also his grandchildren, Stephanie Frazier and husband Bart of Pikeville, Ky., Rebecca Shavel and husband Scott of North Huntingdon, Heather Birchfield and husband Phillip of Pikeville, Ky., Scott Harlan and wife Maureen of Milwaukee, Wi., Elizabeth Harlan and Craig Hugger of Alexandria, Va. and great grandchildren Jordan Ilic, Nicholas and Julia Shavel, Bailey Birchfield and Braden Harlan. A brother Robert and wife Bessie of Va. and two sisters, Dorothy and husband Mike Zozom of Dravosburg and Peggy and husband George Verdes of Florida.

Michael's family would like to thank the staff of Redstone Highlands for their friendship, care and compassion shown to Michael.

Family and friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm

at the Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, ( an authorized remembrance provider) 524 N. Main St. Greensburg. Funeral services will be held on Saturday in the funeral home at 11 am with Rev. Steve LaSor officiating.

Interment will take place in the Richland Cemetery in Dravosburg.

In lieu of flowers the family requests Memorials donations be made to tthe Redstone Highlands Benevolent Fund, 6 Garden Center Dr. Greenbsurg, Pa. 15601 Terence L.
