Myron David Hartman, 56, of North Huntingdon, formerly of Greensburg, died Monday, May 4, 2015, in McKeesport Hospital's Select Specialty Unit.
He was born Oct. 14, 1958, in Latrobe, a son of the late David George and Doris Gail Frantz Hartman.
He was an active member of Circleville United Methodist Church, where he was on the board of trustees and helped with many of the church's projects. Myron was a professor at Penn State University, New Kensington, where he taught biomedical engineering. Formerly, he was the director of clinical engineering at South Hills Health System and for many years taught at Ditec Teaching Facility, Solon, Ohio. He published or presented many articles relating to the biomedical field, most notably, in TechNation Magazine. He was an editorial board member for Medical Dealer Magazine and TechNation Magazine. Myron chaired, co-chaired and served on many seminar boards for educational, biomedical and clinical engineering. He held offices and board memberships with Hospital Engineers of Southwestern Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Society for Health Facility Engineering, Clinical Engineering Society of Pennsylvania and Medical Equipment Technical Society of Western Pennsylvania. Myron was chairman, vice chairman and member of many advisory work groups, advisory and relations committees that included AmeriNet Central and American Society of Hospital Engineering. His accomplishments include many awards, including PSEAS Outstanding Teacher Award, Best of 2011 Biomedical Professionals, Biomed of the Month and the Donald M. Sauerman Award. Myron designed and installed an alarm/monitoring system for ethylene oxide sterilizers. He designed and implemented a full service biomedical and electrical equipment management program. As a member of Brothers Brother Foundation, he traveled to Liberia, Africa, to evaluate and train individuals and service medical equipment. His other travels to train and educate took him to all parts of the United States and Saudi Arabia. Myron was an Eagle Scout and later served as a Scout Master. He was an in-line roller hockey club advisor and head coach at Penn State University, New Kensington. He was a member of Acacia Fraternity-Pitt at Johnstown and the Corvette Club of Western PA. He loved to dance, travel and take cruises with his wife, Amy. Myron and Amy once owned an entertainment business known as Amyron Disc Jockeys.
Myron is survived by his wife, Amy Louise Cope Hartman; children, Brian Hartman, of North Huntingdon and fiance, Carol Cress, Scott Hartman, of Greensburg and fiance, Kassandra Fink and Katie Barbuscak and husband, Matthew, of Monroeville; an aunt, Maxine Brannon, of Cranberry Township; his two "African sons", Prince Kwenah and Willie Voupawoe; and also his dogs, Shelby and Teddy Bear.
Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 524 N. Main St., Greensburg. Additional viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the hour of Myron's service at 11 a.m. Saturday in Circleville United Methodist Church, 11600 Parkway Drive, North Huntingdon.
Private interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
