Peter William Benard, 69 of Greensburg, passed away, Thursday, February 20, 2014 of cancer and stroke.
His family called him 'Chip.'
He is the son of the late Francis and Veronica Benard.
Peter was a graduate of Carnegie High School (Class of 1963) and a Vietnam era veteran who served 13 months in Vietnam and earned the Combat Infantryman Badge. In Vietnam, he served with the First Cavalry Division, 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry, Company D reconnaissance platoon. Prior to service in Vietnam, he was assigned to the U.S. Army Presidential Honor Guard. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1967 with the rank of Sergeant (E-5).
After military service, he was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boiler Makers in Pittsburgh where he was involved with building and repairing power plants and pressure vessels.
Surviving are his wife, Gayle Benard, brothers, Michael and Patrick, and a sister, Lisa B, Rush.
Honoring Peter's wishes there will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 11:30am at the Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 North Main Street Greensburg with Father Chad Ficorilli officiating.
Interment will follow at 1:30pm in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
