Reynaldo M. Torio (“Rene” or “Rey”), 81 of Greensburg, PA passed away on November 1, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted family man who dearly loved his wife, Bella. They were married for 55 wonderful years and were truly inseparable.
Rey graduated from medical school from University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines in 1968. In 1969, he moved with his wife to Pittsburgh for his medical internship at South Side Hospital. He was deeply committed to his profession as an orthopedic surgeon. He did his training at Altoona Hospital and Catholic Medical Center of Brooklyn and Queens, New York. He practiced as an orthopedics surgeon at Westmoreland Hospital, Frick Hospital, Highland Hospital, Jeannette Hospital, and Brownsville Hospital. He retired from orthopedics in 2003, and later worked as a medical consultant at the Pennsylvania Disability Determination Services for 8 years.
Before finding his calling as a doctor, he enjoyed painting, and wanted to pursue a career in the fine arts. He also loved playing the violin and piano when he was young. Throughout his life, he loved traveling, dancing with Bella, watching Steelers games with Rich, playing cards with his grandsons, reading, playing golf, and dining out with family and friends. He was a very supportive and proud father to his three children and was a loving grandfather, especially loved cheering for them at their football and baseball games. During the pandemic, he found new hobbies baking empanadas, macadamia nut cookies, and coconut cloud cake. Rey was a long-time member of Our Lady of Grace Parish in Greensburg and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Pennsylvania Orthopedic Society, and Pennsylvania Medical Society.
Rey is survived by his beloved wife, Bella; his daughter, Christine Lenz and her husband, Ryan, and three grandsons, Connor, Bradan, and Eli; his daughter, Jocelyn and her husband, Adrian Lafond, and step-grandson, Eamon; his son, Richard; and his younger brother, Lito. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pablo and Maria, and his sisters, Rosalinda and Cherry.
His devotion to his family, cheerful disposition, and kindness to others will forever be remembered. Rey will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, November 10, 2024 from 3 to 5pm at the KEPPLE-GRAFT Funeral Home 524 N. Main Street, Greensburg. Prayers of transfer will be held for close friends and family in the funeral home on Monday, November 11th at 9:30am. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 11th at 10am in Our Lady of Grace Church, 1011 Mt Pleasant Rd, Greensburg, PA 15601. Interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg.
