He was the third son of Daniel and Kathleen Govora of Greensburg. He graduated from Hempfield Area High School and Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center in 2008. In high school he was a member of the football and bowling teams. He was currently working as a journeyman carpenter as a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America and the Local 759 Carpenters Union.
Richard was dedicated to the discipline and defensive art of Taekwondo and worked very hard for four years to earn his second degree black belt May 11, 2013. He then turned his skill to helping and teaching others, so he became a Taekwondo instructor at TaeDan International in Greensburg and taught self-defense classes. Richard enjoyed sharing his passion for Taekwondo with his lifelong friend Marcus Gresko. He also excelled at ballroom dancing, and family and friends lovingly remember how much joy he brought to any celebration that provided him the opportunity to dance.
Richard loved spending time fishing with his brothers and father and they all shared an enthusiasm for Pittsburgh sports. He was an avid Penguins, Steelers and Pirates fan and always had amazing knowledge of the players' performance each season. Richard had bowled on recreational bowling teams since he was five years old, and as an adult he enjoyed bowling in a league with his father, brothers and friends.
Richard adored animals, especially his beagle, Lucy, and golden retriever, Maggie. But his kindness and compassion were even more evident around people. Richard had a great sense of humor. He was a generous and peaceful person. Richard could make anyone smile and people remember being ever amazed at his photographic memory and contagious conviviality.
