Richard Highberger

October 11, 1935 — December 25, 2016

Richard B. Highberger, 81 of Greensburg, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2016 at his home.  He was born October 11, 1935 in Greensburg a son of the late Wilfred and Frances (Bell) Highberger.

Prior to his retirement, Rick was employed as an industrial engineer for Conrail.  He enjoyed golf and gardening and was a volunteer, along with his wife, Jane, at Westmoreland Manor.  He also volunteered at both Nicely and Hutchinson Elementary Schools.  He was very active with his great-grandchildren and followed all of their activities.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Highberger, and a sister, Patricia Yerkes.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Carolyn Jane (McNerny) Highberger whom he married December 28, 1954, his four children: Debbie Stahl (Paul Mastrippolito); Mike Highberger (April); Vicki Fescenmyer (Jim); Shari Mills (Jim); nine grandchildren: Crissa Jones (Todd); Nikki Smith (Bill); Lauren Stahl (Jeff Ward); Kate Highberger (Nathan Mitchell); Steven Lubinski (Ashley); Katy Verdesoto (Reed); Ben Lubinski; Jimmy Mills (Heather); Jonathan Mills; thirteen great-grandchildren: Jake, Nick, Matthew, Kylie, Ashley, Olivia, Emily, Billy, Steven, Emmy, Lila, Edie and Addie; a brother, Albert “Mike” Highberger (Audrey), and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 3 to 7 pm in the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, INC.  524 N. Main St. Greensburg where his funeral service will be held Friday at 10:30 am with Rev. Rob Rabenstein officiating.  Private interment will take place in Hillview Cemetery.  The family would like to acknowledge Rachel and Maureen with Heartland Hospice for their care and kindness to Rick.  Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice 3520 PA-130, Irwin, PA 15642 or the Make a Wish Foundation www.wish.org/Donate.
