Robert E. Feathers, of Harrison City passed away on Wednesday March 4, 2015 at Redstone Highlands, Greensburg.
He was born in 1929 to Edgar M. and Helen (Steeb) Feathers in Pittsburgh.
Robert was a member of the Penn-Zion Lutheran Church, He was a graduate of Westinghouse High School and the University of Pittsburgh. He enlisted in the US Navy and served as an officer aboard the destroyer USS Cone DD866 during the Korean War. Robert spent his career as a chemical engineer with PPG Industries at Natrium WV; Pittsburgh, PA; Barberton, OH; and Monroeville. His work sometimes took him overseas to Japan, Rome, Bulgaria and Sardinia. He was a member of the 1787 Society of the University of Pittsburgh as well as a life member of the Tin Can Sailors Association. Bob was an active member of several Lutheran Churches including, Penn-Zion, Harrison City; Grace Lutheran, Wadsworth, OH and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, New Martinsville, WV of which he was a charter member and had been instrumental in the development of the mission congregation 56 years ago.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Betty B. (Langer) Feathers, Greensburg; a son and a daughter, Eric R. Feathers and wife Scarlett, Trafalgar, IN; Nancy F. Janes and husband Garth, Longmeadow, MA; a granddaughter, Chelsea Janes, Washington DC; a grandson, Spencer Janes, Longmeadow, MA; three brothers Edgar Feathers and wife Mary Alice, Webster, NY; William Feathers and wife Marian, Towanda, PA; and Paul Feathers and wife Mary Lou of Penn Hills; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday March 22, 2015 at 12:15 PM at the Penn-Zion Lutheran Church, Harrison City. Inurnment will be at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery, Pleasant Hills.
