Robert Gaither

Robert Alexander Gaither, 95, of Greensburg, died Thursday, August 23, 2018 in The Rehab and Nursing Center, Greensburg.   He was born on March 4, 1923 in Uniontown, a son of the late Edwin Stanton Gaither and Ethel Smith Gaither.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Greensburg.  He also was a member of Uniontown American Legion Post 51.  Robert was a veteran and served as a tank gunner with the Army’s 3rd Armored Division “Spearhead”, during WWII.  He was wounded en route to the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart.  Prior to retirement, he worked as a salesman for Amoco.  Robert enjoyed reading, golf, grouse hunting and spending time with his family.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Edwin S. Gaither.  He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lois Vance Gaither; his children, Susan Gaither (Martin Grbach) of Greensburg, Robert Stanton “Bob” Gaither (Katherine) of Sumerduck, VA and Laura Gaither Lowe (Steven) of Oakmont;  4 grandchildren, Robert A, and Michael P. Gaither, Laurel and Neil Grbach and Elaina and Hannah Lowe; 2 step-grandchildren, Ryan and Sadie Lowe.  Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 6-8 PM at Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 North Main Street, Greensburg.  Robert’s funeral service will be held on Monday at 10:30 AM in First United Methodist Church, 15 East Second Street, Greensburg (please everyone go directly to the church).  Private interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery with military rites accorded by members of South Greensburg American Legion Post 981.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one’s favorite charity.  For online condolences, please visit www.kepplegraft.com.
