Robert Ivan Johnston 65, of Greensburg, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2013. Bob was born Oct. 11, 1947, in Meadville, PA, the son of the late Wallace and Rebie (Kightlinger) Johnston, of Meadville.
Bob is a 1970 graduate of Alleghany College, and graduated from Duquesne University Law School in 1974. He became a partner at Tremba & Jelley, LLC in December of 2010.
From 1977 to 1980, Bob was a prosecutor for the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office, and from 1980 to 1985, he was a prosecutor for the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office. Bob had extensive experience in personal injury cases, employment litigation, business and contract disputes, civil rights claims, and administrative law matters. He also served as a mediator in various civil litigation matters, including Lawyers Professional Liability cases, as well as Domestic Relations matters. Bob was involved in the PBA annual Malpractice Avoidance Seminars, sharing insights gleaned from more than fifteen years as Hotline Counsel to Pennsylvania lawyers. Bob was currently a Trustee on the PBA Insurance Trust, and had served as Zone Governor for Zone 6. He was long-time member of the PBA House of Delegates, and a former President of the Westmoreland County Bar Association, the Westmoreland County Academy of Trial Lawyers, and was also a founder of the Ned J. Nakles Inn of Court and served as its first President. In February of this year, Bob was presented with the Justice John P. Flaherty Award by the Conference of County Bar Leaders. This award recognizes the work of an association member for supporting the conference and legal profession, justice system and community. This May, Bob was to be presented with an award at the Pennsylvania Bar Association's annual meeting for his many years of PBA service.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald, and his step son, Scott Austin. Surviving are his wife, Jacque, son, Adam and wife, April, of Monroeville, granddaughter, Taylor Austin, grandson, Dylan Austin, their mother, Wendy Austin Lysaght, granddaughter, Brooke Johnston, mother-in-law, Rose Barron of Pittsburgh, brother, James Johnston (Gail), of Cleveland, OH, and sister Linda Higby (Doug) of Meadville, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 North Main Street, Greensburg,.
A private prayer service for close family and friends will be held on Wednesday from the funeral home.
A memorial service to honor Bob's life will be held at Seton Hill Chapel on Saturday, May 25 at 11am.
