Robert E. Smith, 85, of Greensburg, passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, in Redstone Highlands, Greensburg. He was born June 29, 1927, in Greensburg, a son of the late William and Florence Taylor Smith.
Bob retired from PPG, South Greensburg, and following retirement volunteered at the Greensburg Railroad Station. He also enjoyed his friends at McDonald's Restaurant. His hobbies included trains, planes and football. He served his country during World War II in the Navy and the Korean War serving with the Army. Bob was also a member of the South Greensburg American Legion and VFW Post 33, Greensburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn Smith and an infant brother, Alfred; and a sister, Flora Jean Katonka.
He is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Richard Smith and wife, Helen, of Greensburg, Sarah Hauger, of Greensburg, Gladys Steffey, of North Huntingdon, Dorothy Maffit, of South Greensburg, William Smith, of Carlisle, and John Smith, of North Huntingdon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday in the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME INC., an authorized remembrance provider, 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. William A. Waugh officiating. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park with military honors bestowed by VFW Post 33. Memorials may be made to Church of the Brethren, 554 Stanton St., Greensburg, PA 15601.
