Robert John Sommer, 95, of Greensburg, died peacefully on January 29, 2025, at home with loving family. He was born on November 8, 1929, in Smithville, Ohio, son of the late David and Viola (Spiker) Sommer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Georgia Linscheid and brother-in-law Allen Linscheid of Reedley, Ca.

Bob lived a long happy life dedicated to his family, friends, and church. Bob attended Bluffton University for accounting. A proud veteran, Bob served as a Staff Sargeant in the 987th Artillery Gunnery during the Korean conflict.

Bob was raised on a fourth-generation farm in Smithville, OH. where he met his wife of 59 years, Sally (Sheets) Sommer (deceased). They spent time in Ohio before settling in Greensburg, Pa for his job at International Paper. Bob retired from Sulcus Computers where he was their treasurer.

Bob could not have been prouder of his family, sons John (Diana) Sommer of Greensburg, Pa, and Steven (Ann) Sommer of York, Pa. Bob had a strong bond with his grandchildren, Chelsea (Taylor) Stauffer, Kelly (Logan) Hoak, Grant Sommer and Lauren Sommer. He was so proud of the fourth generation of great-grandchildren Emmitt & Beckett Hoak and Mila Stauffer.

Bob served faithfully in multiple positions in his church, First Christian Church of Greensburg. He was presented with the award of Pillar of the Church and given Elder Emeritus status.

Bob was a kind, hardworking, and faithful man who always saw the best in others. We are all blessed to have known and loved him. He has entered the gates of heaven and has reunited with his beloved wife, Sally. Bob will be deeply missed. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness.
