Robert Butts Weidlein, 89 of Greensburg, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2009 in Excela Westmoreland Hospital.
He was born July 29, 1920 in Pittsburgh, a Son of the late Dr. Edward R. and Hazel B. Weidlein.
He was a 1938 graduate of the Shadyside Academy in Pittsburgh, received his BA from Princeton University with the class of 1942 and JD from University of Pittsburgh Law School, 1948.
Robert was a Captain in the United States Army, (1942-1945) and decorated Veteran of WW II receiving two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.. He was a Forward Artillery Observer, 15th Field Artillery Battalion, serving in Europe, including Omaha Beach, Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), Rhineland, and Central Europe.
He spent a 30 year career in Sales and marketing management with the Koppers Co. of Pittsburgh, PA.
Robert's professional retirement activities were Member/Regional Director Senior Core of Retired Executives (S.C.O.R.E.), owner of Huntland Farm Bed & Breakfast and owner of Antique Treasurer's. His Club memberships were with Rolling Rock Club and Mountain Lake of Lakes Wales, Fl. and his hobbies/interests were oil painting, gourmet cooking, world travel, fly fishing, antiques, avid reader of History, and numerous civic activities.
In addition to his Parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Elizabeth McNary Weidlein,and two brothers Edward R. and John D. Weidlein.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Clement Weidlein, three children George M. Weidlein, William B. Weidlein, and Hazel L. Carney, two Step-children, Peter J. Lewis, and E. Pixley Schiciano, seven Grandchildren, Karen E. and Elaine M. Carney, Sarah E., Katherine A., & Emily M. Weidlein, E. Christina and Nicholas T. Schiciano.
Family and friends are welcome from 4-7 PM Friday at the Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 North Main St. Greensburg.
A funeral service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 145 N. Main St. Greensburg on Saturday, at 10 AM with Rev. Lawrence Knotts and Rev. James Simons
co-officiating.
Private interment will be in the Ligonier Cemetery.
