Robert C. Wise, 85, of Jeannette, passed away peacefully in the company of his family at Westmoreland Hospital on Sunday evening, May 13, 2012. He was born at Wana, WV on Oct 4, 1926, a son of the late Clark and Nellie Wise. He was a graduate of Clay-Battelle High School in Blacksville, WV, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in the occupation of Japan. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Marjorie (Morris). Also surviving are his children: Kimberly Lowe (Stephen Dickson) of Lebanon OH, Kevin (Sharon) of Greensburg, Bradley of Bedford, Kuyler of Bay Village OH, and Robert Douglas; seven grandchildren, Jamie, Eric, Joshua, Jonathan, Shaun, Meghan, and Zachary; and two great grandchildren Jenna and Reghan. He was preceded in death by his brother Carl.
After WWII, Mr. Wise used his Army experience in heavy equipment operation to secure a job with the Fish Construction Co. In 1947 he participated in the building of Preston Station, a natural gas pumping station at Sycamore, PA. He then enjoyed a 41 year career with Consolidated Natural Gas Co., including startup of the Lebanon, OH Station in 1969 where he was Repairman. He retired in 1989 as the Superintendent of the Jeannette Pumping station.
Mr. Wise was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Waynesburg Lodge. He was an avid reader and history buff, and he loved his garden. As a descendant of the early settlers of Greene and Monongalia Counties, he had a great interest in genealogy. He enjoyed taking an active part in an internet discussion group that centered on the history of the families in the Brave, PA and Wana, WV area. He will always be remembered by his family for his love, guidance and generosity.
Family and Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at the KEPPLE-GRAFT Funeral Home, (an authorized remembrance provider) 524 North Main Street Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
Members of Philanthropy Lodge 225 F & A.M. will meet on Wednesday at 6:30 pm to conduct Masonic services.
A private burial service will follow in the Eakin Cemetery, Wana, WV .
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
