Roy Tyler Hardin Jr, 97, of Greensburg, passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2021, in Redstone Highlands, North Huntingdon. Roy is survived by his son Roy (Virginia) Hardin III, of Florida, Steven (Debra) Hardin, of Indiana, Keith Hardin, of Ohio, and James (Toni) Hardin, of North Huntingdon; five grandchildren: Riley, Miles, Cole, Natalie, and Lynne; and his sister, Nancy Hatch, of State College, PA. Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Helen, sisters Virginia and Betty Jean, along with brother-in-law Jack Gillenwater. He was born June 14, 1924, in Jonesborough, Tenn., son of the late Roy and Kate Hardin. He served in the US Navy during WWII aboard LST 286. He married Helen Marjorie Gillenwater of Maryville, Tenn., on June 18, 1949, while earning a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tenn. Roy worked for many years as a design engineer for General Electric and later for Westinghouse, last working at the Westinghouse Nuclear Energy Center in Monroeville, PA. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Greensburg. His interests included hunting, history, philosophy and singing. Per the family wishes, no visitation or services will be held. Interment will be in St. Clair Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Redstone Highlands for their loving care of Roy.
