Ruth L. Cavic of Greensburg died peacefully, Thursday, May 13, 2010 in Excela Westmoreland Hospital. She was born in Pittsburgh on July 13, 1929, the daughter of the late George and Louise (Rapp) Winter. Besides her parents she was also preceeded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Louis Cavic and her brother James Winter. Ruth loved her family and friends and was a devoted mother and wife who enjoyed raising her children and being a housewife. While raising her children she found time to spend doing her favorite hobbies such as gardening and flower arranging. Ruth was a parishioner of Our Lady of Grace Church where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society serving as president and other officer positions. She was a thoughtful, considerate and caring person to all those in need and went out of her way to help people by volunteering her time to community services such as Westmoreland Regional Hospitality Shop and the St. Vincent de Paul Store. She and her husband, Lou enjoyed many activities together such as going to the River City Brass Band with friends and traveling to places like Hawaii, Europe, Ireland and other states in the United States. They also belonged to the West Penn Power 500 Card Club and bowled in the West Penn Power Friday Night Bowling League. Ruth is survived by her daughters; Marilyn, wife of Richard Dvorsky of Greensburg; Kathleen, wife of Ronald Patun of Latrobe; Susan, wife of Brian Berkley of Carisle, PA and son David, husband of Dawn (Christopher) of Lebanon, a sister Nancy, wife of Thomas Kelly of Greensburg; and three grandchildren Beth, Brian and Nathan along with several neices and nephews.
Relatives and friends will be received at Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 N. Main Street in Greensburg on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church on Tuesday at 9:30 am. Interment will be held at the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery immediately following the mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Our Lady of Grace Rosary Altar Society or American Breast Cancer Society.
