Thomas A. Wandrisco, 96, of Greensburg was born June 5, 1928 in Pittsburgh, PA; the fifth child of the late Gustave and Marcella Wandrisco.
He was a member of the Parish of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg, PA. Tom was a graduate of Penn State University, where he studied forestry and agriculture. Tom served in the US Navy Reserves aboard the USS Strickland.
Tom spent his early career working for J.M. Brun where he was involved in completing the landscaping for many large projects including Gateway Center Buildings I, II, & III; The NYC Housing Authority’s Edenwald, Brevcort, and George Washington Carver projects; Brooklyn College; New York Museum of Art; The UN Complex; Cotton Bay Club, and the Towers of Cable Beach in the Bahamas.
Tom was happily married to his wife Nancy (King) for many years until her passing. They were active supporters of Nittany Lion Football, and Tom was active in many service organizations including the Jaycees and Lions Club. Currently, Tom was the longest serving member of the Latrobe-Derry Lion's Club where he had previously served twice as club president. Additionally, he received several awards in recognition for his service. Tom started his own landscaping business, Green Thumb Nursery, where he spent many years beautifying the Westmoreland County area.
Tom was a very generous person, who after Nancy’s passing spent much of his time creating many scholarships honoring Nancy and other family members at universities and colleges including Seton Hill, Saint Vincent, Duquesne, Grove City, The University of Pittsburgh, and Westmoreland County Community College.
In addition to his parents and wife, Tom was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Daly and his brother, Joe Wandrisco. Tom is survived by his sister, Martha Neff of Pittsburgh, PA and his brother, John Wandrisco of Latrobe, PA as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family and many people who have had the pleasure of knowing Tom over the years and who enjoyed his special personality. He will surely be missed!
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, December 22nd from 4 to 6 pm at Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 North Main Street Greensburg. A funeral mass for Tom will be held on Monday, December 23rd at 9:30 am in Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, 300 North Main Street, Greensburg. Everyone is asked to go directly to church. Private interment will follow in Unity Cemetery. The Latrobe-Derry Lion's Club will conduct a Memorial Service on Sunday at 5:30 pm in the funeral home.
