Ursula Luise (Burkhardt) Mohler, 92, of Murrysville, formerly of Dayton, Ohio, passed away Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Stanley Ross Mohler, M.D.; her parents, Erich Burkhardt and Meta (Brandenburg) Burkhardt; and her brother, Kurt Burkhardt.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Luise Mohler; sons Stanley Ross Mohler Jr., and Mark Hallock Mohler; daughter-in-laws, Angela Manon (Roberts) Mohler and Kathleen Joan (Andre) Mohler; grandchildren, Tabitha Nicole Mohler, Samantha Marie Mohler and Kurt Andre Mohler; brother, Joachim "Joe" Erich Burkhardt; and numerous nieces and a nephew.
Ursula was born in Glasshuette, Saxony, Germany, where her father's father founded a calculating machine factory and her father's mother's family founded the Lange and Sohne watchmaking company. In 1943, Ursula earned the Medicina Assistanten degree from the University of Berlin. After World War II, Ursula worked for a group of German aviation medicine doctors, and was brought to the United States in 1947 as part of Operation Paperclip. She met her husband, Stanley, at Randolf Air Force Base, Texas, in 1952, and married in 1953. Ursula loved being a homemaker and mother. She volunteered with the American Red Cross in Bethesda, Md., and Kettering Hospital, in Dayton, Ohio. She was a prolific knitter of baby caps. Ursula was an avid exerciser who began jogging at age 50. She often led exercise classes at Hithergreen Senior Center near Dayton until the age of 87. She also loved to help and take care of her friends in time of need.
A memorial service for both Stan and Ursula will be held on Saturday morning, November 8. Family and friends are welcome to gather at 10:00 AM with a service at 11:00 AM and a reception at noon, all at 1900 Founders Drive, Kettering, OH 45420.
