Violet Lorraine Spencer, 73, of Luxor, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg.
She was born February 11, 1936 in Phillipsburg, NJ a daughter of the late Charles Lester and Bertha Edna Fisher.
Violet, along with her husband, published and edited the Tri-State Auto Racing News until 2000 when it was sold. For forty years, she worked at various positions at speedways. She was an avid Dale Ernhardt and Steelers fan. Violet enjoyed "the old time" country music, reading, gardening, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, games of Boggle and Uno, sewing and crocheting, baking her Christmas pumpkin bread and "secret recipe" chili. She was a faithful member of the Greensburg Church of the Brethren and their Sunday School Koinonia Karolers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, William Stasak in 1981.
Violet leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband of 30 years, Harry Verne Spencer whom she married on Valentine's Day 1979 in Daytona Beach, Florida' a daughter, Lois M. Stasak of Nazareth, Pa; a brother, Gerald E. Fisher of Phillipsburg, NJ; a special niece, Linda Richard and husband Ray of Clearwater, FL; two grandchildren; and dear friends from the Greensburg Church of the Brethren. She always had a love for her cats: Alfie, Baby Ben, Frankie and Xena who were referred to as the kids.
As per Violet's request, there will be no public visitation. A memorial service is planned for a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, INC. 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, PA. Terence L. Graft, funeral director in charge. The family suggests contributions in her memory to the Greensburg Church of the Brethren, 554 Stanton St. Greensburg, PA 15601.
