William E. (Ernie) Winstead, 66, of Greensburg, formerly of La Plata, MD, DIED Friday, May 10, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born April 21, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, a son of the late John W. and D. Louise (Bowling) Winstead. Ernie is a retired Boilermaker after 34 years of service and a member of Boilermakers Local 193 (MD). He was a 1965 graduate of La Plata High School, Maryland. He loved farming, all kinds of hunting and fishing, and going gambling. He was a member of the Salina Sportsman Club and the National Wild Turkey Federation Penn's Woods Spurs Chapter.
Surviving are his loving partner of 12 years, Terry L. Hixson and her two sons, Andrew L. Hixson and Benjamin J, Hixson all of Greensburg; and his seven children, William C. Winstead; Jennifer Todd and husband, William of Cobb Island, MD; John and wife, Julie of Mechanicsville, MD; Sarah Schoenfeldt and husband, Charles of King George, VA; Molly Foley and husband, Todd of Wintergarden, FL; Bonnie Asselin and husband, Adrian, currently of Japan and James Winstead of King George, VA; six grandchildren, Jessica Winstead, Angel, Kane, and Jaxon Winstead, William Schoenfeldt and Keelie Foley.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Mt. View Cancer Pavilion and the caring and helpful staff from Heartland, Joey, Lori, Marion, Jessica, Marty, and Mary.
He will be sadly missed by family, friends, neighbors and his dog, Abby.
Family and friends will be received Monday, May 13, 2013, 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at the KEPPLE-GRAFT Funeral Home Inc., 524 N. Main Street, Greensburg. A service will be held at 8pm Monday evening with Pastor John Smaligo officiating. An additional viewing will be held at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home 211 St. Mary's Ave., La Plata, MD 20646 on Tuesday from 5 to 8pm. Private interment will be in La Plata Methodist Cemetery.
