Carla K. Thompson, 80, of Southwest Greensburg, died Saturday, June 17, 2017, in UPMC Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born May 25, 1937, in California, Pa., and raised in Monessen, a daughter of the late Elden S. and Marjorie S. Kent. Prior to retirement, she worked as a librarian for more than 30 years at Greensburg Salem High School and other institutions of learning. She received her bachelor's degree from Clarion State College (Clarion University of Pennsylvania) and her master's degree from West Virginia University. She was a member of Christ's Church, Greensburg, for decades, where she was a member of the choir and Women's Committee. Carla was a very active member of the Order of the Eastern Star and has served as worthy grand matron of William E. Gelston Chapter 435 Jeannette Court 25, district deputy and many other Grand Chapter appointments. She also served as worthy grand matron of Eastern Star of Pennsylvania and had a general grand appointment to registration. Carla was also an active member in the Order of the Amaranth. She served as royal matron of amaranth of the Jeannette chapter and held several appointments in amaranth. She was also a past grand royal matron of Amaranth of Pennsylvania and deputy supreme royal matron of amaranth. Carla was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile and Daughters of Scotia, Lady MacGregor Lodge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, James Kooser Thompson, in 2010.  She is survived by her beloved daughter, Christina F. Bompiani and her husband, William J.; loving grandchildren, William J. Bompiani II and wife, Mandy, Michael C. Bompiani and his wife, Danyell, and Matthew T. Bompiani; precious great-grandchildren, Kayla Bompiani and Juliet Bompiani; a nephew, Elmer G. Schade; and her Scottish terriers, Maggie Mae and Gillie Marie. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 524 N. Main St., Greensburg. Carla's funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Christ's Church Greensburg with Deacon Gretchen Peske officiating. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Entombment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park Mausoleum. The Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Thursday followed by the Order of the Amaranth service at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ's Church, 145 N. Main St., Greensburg, PA 15601.
