Charles Smeal

July 26, 1925 — June 17, 2017

Charles “Chuck” Smeal, 91, of Greensburg, died, Saturday, June 17, 2017 in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.   He was born on July 26, 1925 in New Salem, PA, a son of the late Edwin A. Smeal, Sr. and Mary Lewis Smeal.  He graduated from Uniontown High School in 1943.  He was a proud veteran of WWII and served with the US Air Force as a B-29 navigator.  In 1946, his career started as a meter reader for West Penn Power Company before moving on to safety inspector, lineman training school supervisor, operating superintendent, construction services manager before he retired in 1989 as a manager for the company now known as Allegheny Energy.  He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Greensburg.  A Mason for over 60 years, Chuck was Past Master of Valley Lodge # 459, Masontown, PA; Thrice Potent Master of Uniontown Lodge of Perfection; 32nd Degree Mason and participated in various lodge activities.  He was a past president and treasurer for Carmichaels Fire Department and a member of the Elks Club in Waynesburg and Greensburg. He also enjoyed golfing at Hannastown Country Club and was a loyal Pirates fan.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edwin Smeal, Jr.  He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dortha “Dot” Smeal; children, Pamela Jo Smeal of Greensburg, Lindy Lute (Jeffrey) of Stahlstown and Charles J. Smeal, II of Pymatuning Lake; his grandson, Ryan Jeffrey Lute; also his nephew, Jeffrey Smeal of Uniontown.  Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 1-5 PM at Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, Greensburg.  Chuck’s funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 AM in the funeral home with Rev. Donna Havrisko officiating.  The family respectfully asks that no flowers be sent to the funeral home.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1120 Harvey Avenue, Greensburg, PA 15601.  For online condolences, please visit www.kepplegraft.com.
