Donald E. Hoyle, 84 of Greensburg, died on Wednesday 5/11/2016 in the Westmoreland Manor.
He was born August 12, 1931 in Greensburg, a son of the late Harold and Grace (Repp) Hoyle.
Don was a graduate from Greensburg High School Class of 1951. He had served in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Arneb during the Korean War. Don was a member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ in Greensburg. He was a longtime active member of the Greensburg V.F.D. and served many offices, some positions he held were Captain, Lieutenant, Sergeant, and Assistant Commander and a former assistant commander for the Greensburg Fire Departments Marching Unit. For many years he especially loved cooking burgers at the Burger Bash at Hose Company # 8 along with being a member there. Don was also a member of the Firemen’s Association of State of Pennsylvania, Western Pennsylvania Firemen’s Association, Westmoreland County Fireman's Association and the Mohawks Firemen's Association. He also served as a representative on the Board of Control.
Don was a retired employee for Hutchinson and Gunter in Greensburg.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a son, Scott Hoyle; brother, William Hoyle and sister, Nancy Veitch.
Surviving are his loving wife of (63) years, Kathryn ‘Kay’ E. (Skelly) Hoyle; son, Rickey H. (Barbara Ciampini) Hoyle daughter, Wendy E. (Robert) Veshosky six grandchildren, Amber Hoyle, Mallory Hoyle Hopple, Nathan Hoyle, Katelyn Larsen, Kasey (Marina) Liston and Kolby Liston along with two great-grandchildren Aubrey Hensley and Maddox Liston; a sister, Joann Arena; and brother, Roy Hoyle all of Greensburg and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the KEPPLE-GRAFT Funeral Home 524 N. Main Street, Greensburg. Members of the Greensburg Fire Department will meet at the funeral home 7 pm Sunday for services.
Additional viewing will be on Monday from 10 to 10:30 am at the First United Church of Christ, 312 South Maple Ave. with services to follow in the church at 10:30 with Rev. Steve Craft officiating.
Interment with full military honors accorded by VFW Post #33 will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the Westmoreland Manor or the Greensburg Hose Company # 8 Memorial Fund in Don’s memory.
