Joyce Slyman

September 6, 1928 — July 21, 2016

Joyce Jenkins Slyman, 87, of Greensburg, passed away, Thursday, July 21, 2016.

She was born September 6, 1928, the daughter of the late William J. and Fae Phillips Jenkins.

Joyce was a graduate of the Greensburg Class of 1946. Her plans to attend the New York School of Interior Design changed when she married Sam, a career Army officer. Her childhood dream of seeing the world came to fruition, being stationed in Texas, Puerto Rico, Oklahoma, Ohio, Germany, Colorado, and many subsequent traveling experiences stateside and abroad throughout her life.

Joyce was an encourager to all. She had an enthusiasm for life, a love of learning, music, God, and country; and a strong Christian faith since childhood. She was an 80 year member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensburg. Her family would like to thank the staff of Excela Westmoreland Hospital 2E and Hospice for their compassionate and personalized care.

Joyce is survived by her son, Jeffrey Dane Slyman and his wife, Donna Braun Slyman of Tipp City, OH; her daughter, Rebecca Fae Slyman of Greensburg; and her grandsons, Chad Allan Slyman of Indianapolis, IN and Joel Allan Slyman of Tulsa, OK. She has several nieces and nephews and extended family members.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Samuel in 2012, her infant daughter, Catherine Ellen and her brother, William Jenkins Jr.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, July 30 from 10am until the time of service at 11am at the First United Methodist Church in Greensburg.

Private interment will be held in Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
