Nelda F. Ashbaugh, 93, of Greensburg, passed away Friday, March 18, 2016, at Redstone Highlands, Greensburg.
She was born Sept. 26, 1922, in New Alexandria, a daughter of the late Warren E. and Bessie (McIntyre) Fennell.
Nelda was a loving homemaker and had also worked as an office manager for her husband, Harry J. Ashbaugh, AIA. She was a 56-year member of the First Presbyterian Church, Greensburg. She had sung in several church choirs and was also a church pianist. During World War II, Nelda served as an observer of enemy aircraft in the New Alexandria area. As a young girl, she was a Girl Scout and continued to support Scouting. She belonged to the Business and Professional Women and was a talented cook and baker, especially known for her pies.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Harry J. Ashbaugh; and a sister, Gail McDivitt.
She is survived by two sons, Bruce J. Ashbaugh and his wife, Anita, of Carlisle, and Robert W. Ashbaugh, of Greensburg; a granddaughter, Colleen B. Ashbaugh; a grandson, Noah J. Ashbaugh and his wife, Heidi; and a great-grandson, Henry.
The family wishes to thank the devoted staff at Redstone Highlands for their excellent care.
Family and friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Martin Ankrum officiating. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park. A remembrance service will also be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Redstone Highlands Chapel with the Rev. Bobbi Hineline.
